Huge Tier II: After nabbing their first wins of the season last week, the Shockers are off to one of the largest Tier II events of the season, the Leatherneck Classic.

Crossing Borders: Highland Park Bowl in Moline, Ill. will host the women. Right over the border, Big River Bowl (formerly Miller Time Bowl) will host the women in Davenport, Iowa.

Looking to Stay in the Winners Circle: Of the eleven times the Shockers have bowled the event, the men have won twice and the women have won five times. Last year, both men and women finished third.

Schedule: All teams bowl six team games on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Park Lanes and 10:30 a.m. at Big River Bowl. On Sunday, 16 Baker games begin at 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. at the women’s and men’s center, respectively. The field is then cut to the top eight varsity teams in each division for a best-of-three, single elimination, Baker bracket.

Keeping Up With the Shocks: Follow the Shockers scores on their Facebook (/shockerbowling) and Twitter (@shockerbowling) for periodic score updates when they are available! The Leatherneck Classic Facebook page may also post periodic score updates (/leatherneckclassic).

Quad Cities Bound: Since the developmental team season is over, the Shocks shift to bringing just one varsity team in each gender division. Traveling with the women this weekend are Sydney Brummett, Ashlyn Herzberg, Hollyann Johansen, Kristie López, Kayla Ovesny, Laura Plazas and Brooke Woodard. The men are represented by Brandon Biondo, Packy Hanrahan, Jerod Hromek, Mitch Hupé, Wesley Low, Thomas Peters, Jack Stewart and Justin Zwaschka.

Shocker Wins US Open: Recent Wichita State graduate Francois Lavoie put on a show on CBS Sports en route to his first PBA Title and first major as he won the US Open! John Szczerbinski was also on the show, finishing fifth.

End of a Marathon: This marks the last weekend of the marathon the athletes have been on! They finally get a weekend off next week.

Shocker Speak: Senior Justin Zwaschka and Junior Sydney Brummett
Do you guys feel tired after being on the go all semester? What are you doing to keep your energy levels up?

  • SB: I feel tired but I try and put that behind me. We are all pretty excited about practice each day and we are grateful to be here, so the energy never really stops.
  • JZ: We are definitely tired after being on the go so much. There is a little time for real rest and recovery so it’s about taking advantage of that time, using less energy when you don't need to and finding the energy when you need it.

What’s the focus as the end of the semester is coming?

  • SB: The focus is always the same: just stay with the process. As long as we all keep getting better and growing closer we are right where we need to be.
  • JZ: We try to keep practices interesting and change up things whenever possible. That keeps the focus up and the energy up week in and week out.
