Mary Nelson

BENDER OF TWIGS INDUCTEE 2019

Photo Not Available - Default ImageMary came to WSU in 1994 as a Library Assistant and has been an invaluable member of University Libraries Special Collections every day since. She has worked to process collections, install exhibits, create finding aids, digitize materials, and supervise students.

Mary was instrumental in the establishment of our Digital Collections and works daily to improve the experience for all users; she even took programming classes in order to better serve the digital needs of Special Collections.

Because of Mary, countless researchers have been supported and their work has been enriched in a myriad of ways. Her institutional memory and adaptability has proven instrumental time and time again. Mary’s help in preparing for class visits is essential. Without her collection memory and willingness to think outside the box, many classes would be lacking a richness of sources and research possibilities.

Mary is constantly searching for improvement in her own skills and in services provided by Special Collections. She has been crucial to the growth of the department and continues to be an inspiration to those around her.

I am grateful to work with such an amazing, dedicated, creative, hardworking person every day. She truly is a stunning example of a wonderful human being and I look forward to working many more years with her.
