Ronda Bruce

BENDER OF TWIGS INDUCTEE 2019

Ronda Bruce

Ronda Bruce joined Wichita State University in 1993. She started work as an Administrative Assistant in the National Institute for Aviation. She has always worked with the budget and financial matters. Over the years, she has worked for a number of departments across campus, after NIAR, computing services, purchasing, the controllers office, and financial operations.

In 2005, Ronda joined the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries as a senior administrative assistant handling the budget. In her fourteen years in this role, she has helped four different directors of the school navigate the ever-changing landscape of finances, hiring processes and day-to-day operations of the school.

Taking over as director of a school is a steep learning curve. Everything is new, from budgets to hiring paperwork, procurement card approvals to restrictions on foundation funds, RU and GU, fee allocations and budget cuts. I don't know how Ronda keeps it all straight, but she does. She has always been patient with me when explaining a university procedure for the tenth time or helping me fix a problem that I created without knowing. She works hard to keep the faculty on the straight and narrow when it comes to the finances of the school.

Ronda also loves the wildlife on campus. She can often be found over her lunch hour spreading seed and peanuts for the birds and squirrels that occupy the trees behind Wilner Auditorium. Just like the flowers and trees on campus, the wildlife she cares for adds to the ambiance of campus, making it a place that people want to be.

Ronda's more than 25 years of service to Wichita State University has impacted thousands of students, faculty, and staff in ways that they will never know. Her help and guidance have always been extremely appreciated!
